In 2010 we opened the Guilford and Old Saybrook Garden Mart followed by our Milford Garden Mart in 2011. We have been producing Van Wilgen grown plants for almost twenty years and we wanted to share our plants with more gardeners. At the root of it, we love plants. The feeling we get when we walk into our greenhouses full of blooming plants is what motivates us. Our garden marts are packed with Van Wilgen grown plants; I hope you have the same feeling walking in as we do. Look to the garden mart closest to you for color for every season. A convenient way to decorate your home for spring, summer, fall and the holidays.
In 2010, Van Wilgen’s took their years of nursery experience and opened the Old Saybrook Garden Mart right here on the shoreline. We are easy to find at the intersection of Boston Post Road and Spencer Plain Road, just a short distance from Exit 66.
We are your source for locally grown annuals, herbs, vegetables and perennials. All of our plants are produced locally from Connecticut farms and nurseries. Many of the plants we sell are own Van Wilgen’s grown! Our Old Saybrook locations also carries a growing list of popular shrubs, including the best hydrangeas and the family of Knockout roses.
Our staff is made of gardeners just like you. We are here to help you choose the right plants for your garden. We can help answer your gardening questions and we service the plants that we sell.
We have plants for Spring, Summer and Fall. Our Old Saybrook location is open during the peak of the spring and fall growing seasons. Our location is also open for the Christmas Holiday season, offering trees, wreaths, roping and holiday decorations. Stop by and see what we have to offer.

My passion for gardening began at a very young age. When I was a little girl, there was a great green space between the home I grew up in and the house next door. A beautiful formal garden surrounded by Boxwood hedges, with many secret places inside to discover and enjoy.
The many wonderful hours I spent exploring that garden led me to study horticulture and landscape design in college. Today I greatly enjoy helping other people discover, choose and care for the plants that will flourish in their green space! No matter how big or small, together we can find the perfect plants for your special place.
