Hemerocallis breeders don’t add the name “Stella” to a daylily lightly. The plant needs to have the never ending supply of summer blooms, while withstanding heat, humidity, poor soils, drought and cold. ‘Stella in Red’ is all that and more! Its blooms are so richly colored they appear to glow, and the petals darken to nearly black at the tips. This dense, compact plant produces a full bouquet of medium green foliage which is the perfect backdrop for the red blooms that begin to open in mid June and continue on and off until frost. The bright red shade of ‘Stella in Red’ is almost unknown elsewhere in the Daylily family and the blooms won’t fade in full sun as they age. Deer and rabbit resistant, Stella in Red’ will make a car stopping show if you plant it in drifts or mingled with other reblooming daylillies for maximum effect!
