American Spice™ Burkwood Viburnum

American Spice™ Burkwood Viburnum

Shrub

American Spice™ combines a number of traits that make Viburnum such a great plant group and rolls them together to create a rare and outstanding landscape plant. A sport of x burkwoodii, American Spice™ presents a much denser, fuller plant than its close relative and smaller yet more numerous flower bud snowballs in the early spring. These snowballs cover the plant in late April and are a pleasing pink color in bud before they unfurl in early May with a show of creamy white color and a barrage of sweet scent that is nearly addictive! In fact, American Spice™ blooms will remind you of the signature scent from Viburnum carlesi but will carry it on a much smaller, landscape friendly plant that is covered with crinkled, deep green foliage throughout the summer. American Spice™ also has one of the best fall foliage dispays in all Viburnum with leaves turning a melange of yellows, oranges, reds and purples before they drop in late fall. American Spice™ is easy to grow with few pests and few requests other than half to full day sun and moist, well drained soil. It’s a perfect plant for a border or foundation specimen…keep it close so you can breathe in its wonderful scent!
