Boule de Neige is French for ball of snow and it is a perfect description for this Rhododendron. Perfectly round, pure white trusses adorn this dense round shrub after pink buds covering the plant in early to mid-May open. The individual flowers are held in softball size round trusses that will nearly obscure the plant’s deep green foliage and dense, rounded form. ‘Boule de Neige’ is a tried and true variety that has been around since 1878 when it was first introduced. It does well in the Northeast and tends to exhibit more hardiness than Cunningham White while having a denser and more compact form and cluster of flowers. Plant ‘Boule de Neige’ in a border along a foundation or even in a semi-shaded perennial garden for outstanding results.
