Buckwheat German Iris

Buckwheat German Iris

Perennial

Iris genetics have come along way in the last 20 years and, with all the reblooming Iris on the market now, why would you want to limit yourself to only spring bloom? ‘Buckwheat’ is one of our reblooming favorites with a lemon-yellow flower whose falls are slightly deeper in color featuring a greenish-tan tinge, yellow beards, ruffled petal edges and a pleasing, light fragrance. The main bloom period is in late May and it is spectacular followed by an additional bloom from late summer until frost. Like all German Iris, ‘Buckwheat’ absolutely needs well drained, sandy soil to thrive in the landscape. Wet feet or heavy soils will lead to disease problems but, with the proper drainage, ‘Buckwheat’ will prosper with very little input from you. Of course, there is nothing sweeter that a cut Iris bloom in a vase inside and ‘Buckwheat’, with its long, study stems, will allow you to cut to your heart’s delight!
